You Amaze Me Brian Matthews
The lines of your smile trace
themselves on the backs of my eyelids,
the colors of your eyes alive in soft pastels of memory.
I can never sleep at night after hearing
your voice- perpetually restless.
I stand alone on the shore,
staring at a silhouette outlined by
starlight. I imagine that your lips whisper
beneath a tangle of hair, stirring in the
wind that bears my weight.
I memorized your face and curves in those
waning days, though I now struggle to remember
your cheek. How you keep me awake at night when
you call moments after we hang up,
to say goodnight again.
Still, tomorrow your voice will
sound far away as an echo, tearing through the reaches
of a cave... and if distance is far, time is unbearable.
My thoughts are always of you, memories that won't
rest, or permit me to either.
